Lee Bowyer is on the brink of leaving Birmingham City after their 6-1 defeat at the hands of Blackpool yesterday, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke

The Blues fell to a third consecutive defeat on Easter Monday as they were taken apart at Bloomfield Road to pile further pressure on their manager.

Reports ahead of the game suggested that Bowyer was fighting for his job and that a change could be made at the club before the end of the season.

It appears the heavy defeat at the hands of Blackpool may have accelerated that process as O'Rourke has claimed that the 45-year-old is now on the brink of leaving Birmingham.

The former Blues player took charge in March 2021 but has struggled to make much of an impact at St Andrew's – steering them to a 19th place last term and on course for a lower finish still in 2021/22.

He's won 17 and lost 25 of his 56 games at the helm leaving him with an average of just 1.16 points per game.

The Verdict

Clubs often feel forced into making big decisions on the back of disastrous results like yesterday's and it seems Bowyer's future at St Andrew's is now seriously under threat.

He has certainly faced obstacles but there's no denying that he simply hasn't had the impact that he or the club will have been hoping for.

The Blues are now set for a lower finish than last term while they've only stayed clear of the relegation battle due to the points deductions that Derby County and Reading received.

The travelling Birmingham fans were singing 'You're Not Fit To Wear The Shirt' during yesterday's defeat highlighting that their patience has worn thin.

It may be best for everyone to change things up at the Championship club ahead of next season.
