Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has opted to resign from his role as the club’s manager, a statement on club’s website has confirmed.

The decision taken by the controversial manager brings an end to a three-and-a-half year tenure which saw him take the Millers from League Two into the Championship.

Evans’ assistant manager Paul Raynor also leaves the club with the South Yorkshire outfit now seeking replacements for the departing duo.

The statement on the website was keen to state that the decision was mutually agreed and cited that both parties wanting to take the club in different directions as a reason for the split.

The Millers started the season with a run of seven games without a win but interestingly Evans leaves having guided the club to back-to-back wins over Cardiff City and Birmingham City.

First-Team Coach Eric Black has been placed in temporary charge whilst the club seeks a new manager.
