Wigan, Stoke and Middlesbrough are all interested in Reading defender Tyler Blackett ahead of the January window opening tomorrow.

That's according to the Daily Mail, who claim that the Latics are trying to steal a march on their rivals by preparing a £400,000 bid for the former Manchester United man.

It's been a tough season for the Royals, who currently sit second from bottom in the Championship, and Blackett has featured in 16 league games.

One positive he would bring to any buying club is his versatility, with the 24-year-old capable of playing at left-back and as a central defender.

The report states that the three Championship sides are hoping to strike a deal after the major changes that have gone on at Madejski Stadium.

Former Rio Ave boss Jose Gomes is now in charge of the Royals and he may see this as a chance to bring in some funds to help sign his own players.

Blackett did play in Gomes' first game in charge against Millwall on Boxing Day but he was sent off just eight minutes in.

He is still suspended for tomorrow's crucial clash against Swansea City.

The Verdict

Blackett has not convinced this season and you would have to say that Reading will surely be considering offers for the player.

Admittedly, £400,000 isn't exactly great money but it could still tempt them to do a deal.

Wigan would probably be a good move for Blackett, because it's hard to think he would get a game at Boro or Stoke, who should really be pushing for promotion in May.
