With 11 days to go until the start of the new EFL campaign, things are starting to heat up in the summer transfer window.
The weekend’s transfer news saw Newcastle United be linked with potentially their first signing of the Steve Bruce era, after his sudden departure from Sheffield Wednesday last week.
St. James’ Park is where we begin today’s round-up…
Steve Bruce is believed to be interested in signing Preston defender Ben Davies, after a hugely impressive campaign for Alex Neil’s side last time out.
The Sun claims that Newcastle are interested in signing the North End star, who made appearances for the Lilywhites last term.
Preston have already lost Callum Robinson to top-flight side Sheffield United this summer, although the departure of Davies would hurt for other reasons.
According to the Telegraph writer John Percy, West Brom are interested in signing Romaine Sawyers this summer.
The Baggies have already added Filip Krovinovic to their ranks this summer, but are now holding an interest in Sawyers, who has made over 130 appearances for Brentford.
He only has one year left on his contract at Brentford, and it is believed that £3m could be enough for the Baggies to lure him away from Griffin Park, and the Bees have already rejected a £2.2m bid for his services from Albion.
Leeds and Celtic have also been linked with the playmaker’s signature this summer, but it looks as if Albion are now the frontrunners in the race to land the 27-year-old.
West Brom also look set to sign QPR right-back Darnell Furlong for a reported fee of £1.5m, according to the Express and Star.
The 23-year-old has made just over 70 appearances for the R’s, and was a regular for the West London side last term.
Football Insider also claim that Furlong is set for a medical at The Hawthorns on Monday afternoon, as the two parties look to complete a deal.
Replacing Furlong at Loftus Road looks set to be Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling, according to the Independent.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a hugely impressive loan spell with League One side Coventry City last term, and now looks set to make the step up to the Championship.
He is an energetic, talented defender who looks set to join the R’s on a season-loan deal.
Ipswich have rejected another bid from QPR for Alan Judge – but it is claimed by Alan Nixon that the Irishman wants to leave the Tractor Boys this summer.
Judge signed for Ipswich last season, and penned a new two-year deal at Portman Road in April despite Paul Lambert’s side dropping down into League One.
But with former boss Mark Warburton looking to do a deal for the Irish midfielder, it is understood that Judge wants out of Portman Road, despite Ipswich rejecting a fresh £450k bid for the playmaker.
According to exclusive reports from 90min.com, Aston Villa are set to step up their interest in Brentford forward Neal Maupay.
The 22-year-old, who is no stranger to Villa boss Dean Smith, has recently been sent home from the Bees’ training camp in Austria in order to clear his head.
Maupay scored 28 goals for Brentford last season, and is a player that Thomas Frank will be desperate to keep at Griffin Park.
