Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Joe Wollacott has emerged as the subject of loan interest from clubs in the Championship, a report from the South London Press has claimed.

Wollacott joined Charlton back in the summer transfer window, signing on a three-year contract, following the Addicks' then manager, Ben Garner, in making the move from Swindon Town.

The 26-year-old has since gone on to make 20 appearances in all competitions for the club, but has not featured since before the World Cup due to a broken finger.

While the Ghana international is now closing in on a return to full fitness, he could face a battle to regain his place in the side, due to the impressive form of his replacement, Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

As a result, it seems as though clubs are now being tempted to try their luck, with regards to a potential move for Wollacott.

According to this latest update, clubs in the Championship are keen to take Wollacott on loan for the remainder of the season.

However, it is thought that it is as yet unclear, as to whether Charlton will be willing to let the goalkeeper depart The Valley on a temporary basis, before the window closes on Tuesday.

The Verdict

This could be a tough decision for Charlton to make over the short term future of Wollacott.

On the one hand, it could benefit the 26-year-old to go out on loan and rediscover his match sharpness after so long out, if this is a move that allows him to play regularly.

However, that could risk leaving the Addicks short on back-up between the posts, given Nathan Harness does not have a great deal of experience at senior level.

With that in mind, this is a decision that Charlton will have to give a lot of thought to whatever decision they make, and Wollacott's personal preference may yet have a part to play in that.
