Coventry City will be hoping to use the next couple of weeks to send out a statement of intent to the rest of the League One promotion hopefuls.

Mark Robins side have settled well in the third tier after their brief foray into the basement division, but they need a leg up if they're going to crack the top six by the beginning of May.

They're currently eighth, but are six points shy of sixth place as the play-off pack break away from the rest of the hopefuls. One area they desperately need to improve upon is the forward line.

They've scored just 29 goals this season, with every side above them registering at least 11 more. Sixth placed Doncaster have scored 18 more and Mark Robins' side are the only team to have a negative goal difference in the top half of the table.

With that in mind, here's THREE realistic signings we think would boost Coventry this January...

Hepburn-Murphy has already been linked with a switch to the Sky Blues and he'd be perfect for them going into 2019.

He's a talented boy and you only have to look at Andre Green's recent record for Portsmouth to see what a good Villa youngster can bring to the side.

They need to tie this up quickly.

Christian Doidge has recently been let down badly by Bolton Wanderers, but if Coventry act quickly they might be able to pick up the pieces of the deal and take the hitman to the Ricoh.

He'd be a great signing too, he struggled at Bolton, but League One would be much more suitable to his qualities.

It is thought McNulty faces an uncertain future at Reading and that might just put his former employers on high alert.

The change of manager has left McNulty even further out of favour at the Madejski and there might be legs in a sensational return to his old stomping ground, albeit on loan.
