Rangers left-back Declan John is a reported loan target for Ipswich Town.

The East Anglian Daily Times are reporting that the Championship side are keen on the services of the former Cardiff City defender.

Town manager Paul Hurst has a left-sided defender on his radar with the future of current left-back Jonas Knudsen in doubt with Aston Villa interested in the 25-year-old.

John has dropped down the pecking order at Rangers after the Scottish side’s move for Osijek left-back Borna Barisic.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard is open to letting the defender leave amidst the recent high level of interest in the left-back.

The 23-year-old signed for Rangers last summer and has made 16 appearances for the Scottish giants but now looks to be set for a temporary move away from the Ibrox.

With Ipswich keen on the services of the former Cardiff and Barnsley defender.

The Verdict

It could be a necessary signing with the future of Jonas Knudsen still up in the air.

The transfer window closes in less than 24 hours, and the wheel turns faster the closer we get to the 5pm deadline.

With the additions of John Flanagan and Borna Barisic, John has found himself down the pecking order at Ibrox and will be in need of first-team football.

If Knudsen is set to leave, which this deal could indicate, then the 23-year-old could be in an excellent position to start games regularly at Portman Road.
