Sky Bet Championship side Hull City are considering a move for Norwich City striker Gary Hooper, a club insider from Hull City has informed Football League World.

Gary Hooper is wanted by Sheffield Wednesday
Hull are keen on a deal for Hooper

Hull and Norwich have already once completed business with each other during this window, Hull sanctioning the sale of winger Robbie Brady to join the newly promoted Premier League Canaries, who have swapped divisions with Hull following very different fortunes in their respective 2014/15 campaigns.

With Norwich opting to go for a 4-5-1 formation for much of their 2014/15 Championship campaign which concluded with a convincing play-off final victory over Middlesbrough at Wembley, often headed by the bullish Cameron Jerome at centre forward, Hooper found himself in and out of the team last season.

The striker has just one-year remaining on his deal at Carrow Road, where Hooper has still managed 20 goals in 68 appearances, and Hull - who seem certain to lose striker Dame N'Doye before the window closes - seem set to make a bid to acquire the forward's services.

The news should come as a welcome surprise to fans of the Tigers, who managed to score a lowly 33 goals in 38 Premier League games last year and will be reluctant to rely on the hit and miss form of Uruguayan Abel Hernandez.

There is thus far no clear indication if Hooper is set on a move away from Carrow Road but constant speculation regarding his future would certainly beg the question.

Despite him scoring a good number of goals in a Norwich shirt, if he was to move to the KC Stadium there is no doubt fans would be wishing for his emphatic form he showed north of the border at Celtic, scoring 82 goals and assisting a further 30 in just 138 appearances.

Hull, after a slow start in the transfer market, have upped the speed at which they are completing business in the last couple of weeks, acquiring defender Ryan Taylor, midfielder Sam Clucas and forward Chuba Akpom.

They have also confirmed the signing of Brentford's Moses Odubajo and are expected to try to force through a move for teammate Andre Gray also in the coming days.

If Norwich are willing to sell Hooper, the question remains as to whether Hull will have to try as hard as Norwich themselves had to in order to secure a deal for Robbie Brady, if so it could yet be some time before a deal would be reached. Nevertheless, in light of recent activity it is clear that Hull City are set on trying to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
