According to a transfer report in the Daily Mail, Reading are interested in offering Cameron Borthwick-Jackson a route out of Leeds United, with Jaap Stam hoping to sign the left-back on-loan from Manchester United.

Borthwick-Jackson headed for Elland Road on a season-long loan during the summer, but has found his options extremely limited under Thomas Christiansen, with Leeds opting to use Gaetano Berardi and Vurnon Anita at left-back.

The 20-year-old has featured on just five occasions across all competitions for Leeds, with just one of those coming in the Sky Bet Championship, way back in August against Preston North End.

According to the Mail, Borthwick-Jackson is open to another move this month with his opportunities at Leeds drying up.

Stam is willing to hand Borthwick-Jackson that opportunity at Reading, with the Royals keen to take a look before a permanent attempt to sign the defender.

Reading have had troubles at left-back this season following Jordan Obita’s season-ending injury back in October.

Stam’s side are struggling in the Championship, with Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City at the Madejski Stadium leaving Reading 18th in the league standings, just four points above the relegation zone.

The Verdict

Borthwick-Jackson’s loan spell at Elland Road has been a huge disappointment, with the 20-year-old unable to work his way into Thomas Christiansen’s side on a regular basis.

However, Christiansen hasn’t offered Borthwick-Jackson that chance, which Stam seems willing to.

It would be a risky move by Reading, particularly given their league standing, and possibly a deal that isn’t as inspiring as their supporters might’ve been hoping for.
