Hanley, 23, is seen as the perfect replacement for Jason Shackell, who returned to Derby this summer for £3million fee.

Hanley spent his youth career at clubs including Queen of the South, Crewe and Rangers before joining up with Blackburn in 2008 at the age of 16 - he soon went on to captain the under 18's for the club and became a prominent figure amongst the academy players.

The Scottish centre-back, who stands at an impressive 6ft 3, made his debut at the age of 18 and now five years later has become the club's captain, making over 139 appearances along the way.

Burnley see Hanley as the man to resolve their defensive issues before a tough season back in the Championship, as the club look for a return to the Premier League in their first attempt.

Any move for Hanley would be a costly affair with Blackburn having already sold striker Rudy Gestede to Aston Villa for £6 million, but could face the same backlash as their current struggle to keep top forward Jordan Rhodes at the club. Rhodes is said to be keen on a move to Championship side Middlesbrough and if the £14million fee is agreed, Hanley could see this as the perfect time to jump ship too.

Hanley has been capped by Scotland over 17 times and could see a move to Burnley as an opportunity to further not only his career but his international career too.
