The 18-year-old winger looks likely to be leaving Greenhous Meadow this summer after turning down the offer of a new contract and has been linked with a number of Premier League and Championship clubs.

He has not contacted Shrewsbury since the squad returned to pre-season training and his agent has since told the club that his client will not be returning.

Ginnelly had a trial at Norwich City earlier this month and featured in the Canaries Under-21 friendly against non-league Dereham, but it seems the Premier League newcomers have ended their interest.

The former Aston Villa scholar has been training with Burnley for over a week but have seen their offer for the youngster rejected by the League One side.

The two clubs have been in talks since Ginnelly joined on a trial basis but if a deal cannot be reached, it may have to be settled by a tribunal as the Shrews are entitled to compensation as the winger is under the age of 24.

Burnley will be hoping to bounce back at the first time of asking following their relegation from the Premier League last season but have lost three key players in Danny Ings, Kieran Trippier and Jason Shackell.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury will be looking to compete in League One this season after achieving promotion last season.
