Three of the Sky Bet Championship’s promotion favourites are keen on Everton duo Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady, according to The Times.
Derby County, Middlesbrough and Brighton and Hove Albion are all believed to be interested in bringing in one of or both of the Republic of Ireland internationals.
With Euro 2016 just around the corner, both players would benefit from playing regularly if they are to make the final cut in Martin O’Neill’s side, and this could sway their decision on whether or not to drop down a division.
Gibson and McGeady have struggled for minutes on the pitch this season for Roberto Martinez’s side, though Gibson did play a part in Everton’s 2-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge in the FA Cup yesterday.
Middlesbrough and Derby currently occupy the top two positions in the Championship, while Brighton have seen a slump in form, but remain fourth and well in contention.
It remains to be seen whether any of these sides make formal bids for the Everton duo, but there is little doubt that capturing either of them would strengthen the three sides’ hopes of promotion to the Premier League.
