Sky Bet Championship duo Sheffield United and Bristol City are interested in signing Aston Villa forward Scott Hogan this month, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The 26-year old has fallen massively out of favour at Villa Park under his former manager Dean Smith, of whom he flourished under at Brentford.

The forward scored 21 goals in 36 games for the Bees, before sealing a £9million switch to the West Midlands in January 2017, but he has really failed to set the world alight at Villa Park, scoring just 10 goals in over 60 games for the Villans.

Having fallen behind the likes of Tammy Abraham and Jonathan Kodjia in the pecking order for Dean Smith's men, the 26-year old is set to escape the club this month, with Sheffield United and Bristol City looking to land the striker.

The Blades have enquired about taking Hogan on loan until the end of the season as they look to bolster their promotion push, whereas Bristol City also remain interested in the former Rochdale man, as they look to climb into the play-off places.

Villa currently sit 10th in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points off the play-offs after a 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town at the weekend.

The Verdict

This is probably the best move for both parties.

Hogan, after a troublesome time with injuries, needs to get out and play games week in, week out.

I think, though, it would be bizarre to send him on loan to the Robins, as they only sit a couple of places above Villa and are both looking to get into the play-offs.
