Luton Town are reportedly interested in signing Bristol City defender Bailey Wright this month as Graeme Jones looks to bolster his relegation-threatened club, and have made an approach for the player.

According to the report from Football Insider, the Robins could be tempted to cash in on the 27-year-old now, rather than allow him to leave for nothing when his contract expires in the summer.

Wright is considerably down Johnson's pecking order at Ashton Gate this season, making just three appearances, with fellow centre-backs Tomas Kalas, Ashley Williams, Nathan Baker and Taylor Moore all ahead of him at the moment.

QUIZ: Can you name every Bristol City player’s shirt number?

He signed for the club from Preston North End back in the January transfer window of 2017 but has gone on to make just 83 first-team appearances in that time.

As things stand, City sit in 11th place heading into their weekend clash with Wigan Athletic and have lost five of their last six Championship games, piling the pressure on manager Johnson in the process.

Failure to win in their FA Cup clash with Shrewsburty Town did little to help his cause as well, so a positive result is an absolute must against a Latics side who are tough to beat on their own patch.

The verdict

I think it makes perfect sense for Bristol City to cash in on Wright this month.

They have more than enough depth in that position so freeing up some space on the wage bill, as well as bringing in a fee, is the obvious thing to do.

The Robins must get things right this month and I think this would be a step in the right direction.
