Five Championship clubs are preparing January moves for in demand Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes, according to the Daily Mail.
Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City, Brighton and Derby County are all said to be monitoring Rhodes’ situation at the Riverside, with Aitor Karanka recently hinting that he would let the striker go should he choose to leave.
The Championship sides aren’t the only ones who are interested in Rhodes, though, with another three clubs said to be looking to tempt him away from Teesside.
Premier League duo Burnley and Hull City are also interested in signing the 26-year-old while Scottish giants Celtic have also been linked with a move.
One potential stumbling block for those in the Football League, and possibly Celtic, is that Boro will want to recoup what they paid for the prolific forward.
If one of the five Championship clubs interested in Rhodes can tempt back into the second tier, he will almost guarantee them goals given that his current record is 91 goals in 189 Championship appearances.
However, top flight interest could scupper their attempts as the player is keen to test himself in the Premier League, something that he has not had at Middlesbrough this season.
Championship fans…What do you make of the news? Should your club push the boat out to sign Rhodes? Would he be worth the hefty fee that Boro would demand? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
