Brentford are still working on a deal to land Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor before January's Friday night deadline.

The Addicks' ace has looked on the brink of leaving this month after rejecting two contract offers from the club this season - one from Roland Duchatelet and one from the club's new owners, East Street Investments.

And now Alan Nixon, a journalist from The Sun, has reported that Bees remain eager to take him to West London and Griffin Park as they look to boost their promotion hopes.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "Brentford. Trying to get very active. Final check on two Championship winger targets tonight. And still pressing on with Lyle Taylor bid."

So far this season Taylor has notched seven goals in 14 Championship appearances during his debut season in the second-tier, attracting plenty of interest in the process.

West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City are also reportedly interestng in signing the 29-year-old during the current window, although what their plans are remain to be seen.

The verdict

Charlton really need to decide whether they are definitely keeping Taylor this month or definitely selling him and stick to that decision.

If they allow this to drag on, it could result in them selling on deadline day and with very little time remaining to source a replacement of their own.

They would be left with an injury prone Tomer Hemed and Macauley Bonne if Taylor were to depart and, although the latter was doing well prior to his injury, Charlton fans would surely rather have a more experienced figure in that role.
