According to numerous reports circulating in the media, including one by The Sun, Rangers boss Mark Warburton is the number one contender for the vacant manager’s job down at the DW Stadium.
The report also states that Ryan Giggs and former MK Dons boss Karl Robinson are also on a 3-man shortlist compiled by Wigan Chairman David Sharpe.
While his time in management has only been brief, he has been very successful at both clubs he has been at and is considered as one of the brightest upcoming managers in the country.
Warburton is currently at Scottish giants Rangers, whom he led to the Scottish Championship title as well as the Scottish Challenge Cup in the 2015-2016 season.
Prior to his move north of the border, he held the reigns at Brentford, where he took charge of almost 80 games.
During the 2013-2014 season, he steered the Bees to the Championship after leading the club to a 2nd place finish in League One.
Meanwhile, the Latics are currently languishing in 23rd place in the Sky Bet Championship table after a poor start to the campaign which has seen them pick up just 2 wins from the opening 14 league games.
