Everton Under 23s striker Bassala Sambou is a target for Blackburn Rovers, it has been reported.

Blackburn are looking to add fresh striking options to provide support for the now 33-year-old club Player of the Season and joint top scorer Danny Graham, with £7million signing Ben Brereton having struggled to do so since his move from Nottingham Forest last August.

And, according to The Lancashire Telegraph, Sambou - who is out of contract with the Goodison Park side this summer - is one option that Rovers will consider in the summer transfer window.

Sambou has scored 11 goals in the Premier League 2 for Everton this season, and previously worked with current Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray having come through the ranks at Coventry City when the 55-year-old was in charge there, although he didn't make a league appearance.

Mowbray does have form for signing players he has previously worked with for Rovers, having brought both Richie Smallwood and Adam Armstrong to Ewood Park since arriving at the club, having previously worked with the duo at Middlesbrough and Coventry respectively.

The Verdict

This feels like a risky move to me.

Rovers need a proven and established Championship goalscorer to offer an alternative to Danny Graham next season, and for all the promise Sambou has shown, he is not that at the minute.

Even so, Mowbray has enjoyed success when reuniting with former players, so there is perhaps little reason to doubt his judgement when it comes to Sambou as well.
