According to the Sun, Jonny Howson is set for a medical with Middlesbrough today, as he edges closer to completing a £5m move away from Norwich City.

It was reported earlier this summer that Howson had turned down a new contract at Carrow Road, as the midfielder wanted to move back to the north of England.

A number of clubs have shown an interest in signing the 29-year old, but Boro look set to complete a £5m deal, beating Leeds United to Howson’s signature.

Howson will bring vast experience to Garry Monk’s Boro squad, who are going in search of an instant return to the Premier League during the 2017/18 campaign.

Prior to joining Norwich, Howson was a fan favourite at Elland Road, and was part of the Leeds squad that achieved promotion from League One during the 2009/10 season.

The midfielder moved to Norwich in January 2012 and has since excelled in both the Premier League and Championship.

Howson played a vital role in Norwich’s promotion to the Premier League during the 2014/15 season, and was again influential in the Championship last year, despite the Canaries’ struggles.

Norwich stumbled to an eighth-placed finish last season, but Howson impressed, making 38 appearances, scoring six and adding seven assists.
