Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Harry Redknapp has admitted that Leeds United remain one of the biggest clubs in the country.

Leeds have been out of the top-flight since 2004, but still attract big crowds, with tonight’s clash against Redknapp’s Birmingham City set to bring in around 31,000 supporters.

Redknapp, who has come up against Leeds on numerous occasions in both the top-flight and second-tier, spoke highly of the Yorkshire club’s stature ahead of Birmingham’s visit, he said: “(They are) One of the big clubs in the country in my opinion. It’s a tough game they’re very good.

“I heard Alvin Martin talking the other week on the radio and he felt they were the best side he’d seen for a long time in the Championship.”

Birmingham’s trip to Elland Road will see them face one of the Championship’s form sides, with Leeds unbeaten under Thomas Christiansen so far during the 2017/18 campaign.

Leeds are currently second in the table heading into tonight’s fixture, whilst Birmingham are placed at the opposite end of the table, with Redknapp’s side 21st on just four points.

Both clubs were in action on Saturday, with contrasting fortunes, as Birmingham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Norwich City, whilst Leeds recorded an impressive 5-0 victory over Burton Albion.

Leeds are yet to concede a goal in their three Championship fixtures at Elland Road this season, and have conceded on just two occasions in the league, with both of those coming in the opening day victory over Bolton Wanderers.

The Verdict

The feel good factor is coming back to Elland Road this season, with Thomas Christiansen’s exciting brand of football drawing Leeds fans back in their thousands.

Leeds have always had good support, and as a one club city, it is expected.

However, Leeds’ rebuild is in full flow under Christiansen and the ownership of Andrea Radrizzani, and Redknapp will be aware of the task his Birmingham side face this evening when travelling to Yorkshire.
