Preston North End manager Alex Neil remained coy when quizzed about links with Rangers midfielder Josh Windass, The Lancashire Evening Post is reporting.

Preston have recently been linked with a January move for Glasgow Rangers man Josh Windass, who has impressed this season in the Scottish Premiership.

With the signing of Motherwell hit man Louis Moult already wrapped up ahead of the winter window, it is clear that Neil is targeting a few more signings to help Preston push up from mid-table into play-off contention.

They are currently 8th - just one point shy of a play-off spot.

Scotsman Alex Neil is likely to look north of the border for his targets and various reports suggested that Rangers had turned down a £500,000 bid for the 23-year-old.

Regarding the speculation linking Preston with a swoop for Windass, Neil said: "There's interest in quite a few players. We've spoken about wanting to add firepower to our team.

"I'm not going to talk about any players that are not currently ours. It's one of them.

"There's going to be speculation between now and the end of the window about us and a variety of players, some I've probably never even heard of."

The former Accrington Stanley midfielder has played 20 league games this year, netting six goals for the Gers.

The Verdict

Josh Windass is still young and he has experience of the lower leagues and the Scottish Premiership.

The next logical step in his career would be to join a Championship team gunning for promotion and Preston seems like the perfect fit.

They are renowned for buying promising players on the cheap and developing them into better players.
