Reading FC manager Jaap Stam has blasted West Ham United’s training techniques, according to Football London.
Jaap Stam took aim at Slaven Bilic’s training sessions, claiming that loan defender Reece Oxford was ill-prepared for playing time in the Sky Bet Championship.
Reading signed the England under-21 international defender on loan from Premier League outfit West Ham on deadline day but he only made his debut in last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Preston North End – coming on as a substitute for Paul McShane for an eighteen minute cameo.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday, Stam claimed that Oxford was now ready to compete for a first team spot and revealed:
“Reece Oxford has been surprised at the level of intensity in training at Reading, compared to at West Ham.
“Young players need to improve.
“You need to be on top of them and give them good advice, so that’s why training is intense.”
Reading fans – what do you make of this? Are you surprised that your training sessions are more intense than West Ham’s? Is that testament to Stam’s methods? Let us know in the comments below…
