Aston Villa are interested in signing QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies, according to the Mirror.
The 26-year-old has been one of few shining lights for QPR this term in a season which has so far seen them battling down the wrong end of the Championship table.
New Villa manager Steve Bruce has now had a few months to fully run the rule over his squad, and with current ‘keeper Pierluigi Gollini looking less than convincing on occasion, Bruce could now move for the excellent Smithies.
Smithies made his name with Huddersfield Town, making over 250 appearances for the Terriers and helping them win promotion back to the Championship at Wembley in the playoff final five seasons ago,
A move to QPR followed in 2015, and he has once again cemented himself as the main goalkeeper in the team.
A move to Aston Villa could be hard to turn down for Smithies, with the Villans expected to be challenging at the right end of the table come May.
Villa fans, what do you think? QPR fans, would Smithies be missed? Let us know your thoughts!
