Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is set to quit Aston Villa in January, paving the way for a potential cut-price deal to Scottish outfit Rangers, according to the Daily Record.

The 18-year-old starlet was a target for Coventry during the summer transfer window but elected to stay put at Villa Park.

However, a lack of first-team football and the fact Hepburn-Murphy is yet to sign a new deal makes it highly-likely Villa will cash-in during the January window.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce doesn't want to lose the player though, recently confirming his intention to secure the player to a new deal.

"We will do everything we can to tie him up. We like him and we will do everything we can. I met his parents to have a conversation with them to say how much we think of him."

"He has been in the academy here since he was eight.I would hope he can fulfil all his potential and everything he wants to be."

Coventry will face immense competition for the teenager's signature as The Daily Record says SPL giants Rangers are keen on the player, who could cost them a compensation fee of just £220k and that's a bargain the Scottish side are unlikely to let pass by.

With the youngster entering his final six months of his deal with promotion-chasing Villa though and showing no intention of extending his spell with the club, a transfer in January seems extremely likely and Mark Warburton's Scottish side are the favourites to land his signature.

Hepburn-Murphy has made two senior appearances for Aston Villa, making his debut in the Premier League in March 2015 and becoming the club's youngest player in the Premier League in the process.
