Bolton Wanderers and Rotherham United are looking to take Ryan Yates on-loan from Nottingham Forest this summer.

According to the Mirror’s live transfer blog (28/06, 17:54), there is plenty of League One interest in Yates, but Aitor Karanka is keen to see how the midfielder manages in the Sky Bet Championship.

With Forest’s squad taking shape under Karanka, Yates, 20, is ready to move out on-loan, with the midfielder set to choose between Bolton and Rotherham ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Last season, Yates enjoyed two separate spells away from Forest, linking up with Notts County in League Two and Scunthorpe United in League One.

The 20-year-old helped both those sides into promotion contention in their respective divisions.

During his time with Notts, Yates made 29 appearances across all competitions for Kevin Nolan’s side, returning six goals from midfield.

In his 18 League One appearances at Scunthorpe, Yates continued to impress in midfield, scoring two goals and helping the Irons reach the play-offs.

The midfielder is yet to make his first senior appearance for Nottingham Forest, with Yates also spending time out on-loan with Barrow and Shrewsbury Town during his short career.

The Verdict

Yates is a talent, and one that Karanka will be keen to cast a watchful eye over in the next 12 months.

The midfielder has impressed over the last 12 months and next season will be a big year for his development.

He’d be a good addition at either Bolton or Rotherham, who could certainly benefit from his quality.
