Nottingham Forest will let Ryan Yates leave on loan this summer but will not sell him, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Monday 2nd July, 19:21].

Championship duo Bolton Wanderers and Rotherham United are hovering around Yates after being alerted to his availability on loan.

Nottingham Forest have turned down interest from League One pair Bradford City and Portsmouth, who were both keen to sign Yates permanently following his excellent season with Scunthorpe United in League One last year.

But the 20-year-old does appear to have a future at Forest and they will only sanction a loan exit.

The central midfielder spent the first half of last season on loan at Notts County in League Two, scoring six times in 29 games, before joining Scunthorpe in January and scoring twice in 18 games.

With two years left on his current deal, Nottingham Forest are likely to reward with him a longer contract.

The Reds are only willing to let Yates leave the club on loan until January with Bolton and Rotherham pondering swoops.

The Verdict

Nottingham Forest want a new central midfielder this summer but maybe it is just time to give Yates a chance instead?

He could be the missing link they have been looking for in the heart of midfield.

But a six-month loan is also a decent option for Forest as they can check if he can make the step up to Championship level before deciding whether to recall him or keep him out on loan.
