Wigan are hoping to keep goalkeeper Christian Walton on loan from Brighton for another season, with multiple Championship clubs interested, according to HITC Sport.

Walton has been heavily involved in Wigan's promotion back to the Championship because he has made 30 appearances even though he was out for part of the season with a broken ankle.

He also played a part in their remarkable cup run which saw them beat Bournemouth, West Ham and, most impressively, Manchester City on they way to the quarter-finals before they lost 2-0 to Southampton.

This season has boosted the reputation of Walton significantly with a previous loan spell at Luton Town last season being the only other time in which he has received a significant amount of playing time at the senior level.

The Verdict

It's understandable that he might want to go to a bigger side if there are other Championship sides interested in him, but Wigan are a good fit for him and Paul Cook is a great manager to develop under.

Staying where he is might be his best move as he continues his progression with the first-team role for the Seagulls being his ultimate aim.

Keeping up his current pace of development is sure to get Chris Hughton interested sooner or later.
