There was plenty of talent on show during England’s Under-20 World Cup victory earlier this month, with some of the brightest prospects in the country showcasing their talent, as the Young Lions were crowned World Champions.

One player who shone in parts for England was Newcastle United’s Adam Armstrong, who scored one goal from his four appearances, and is hoping to have done enough for an opportunity at St James’ Park in the first-team next season.

However, the 20-year old is likely to find opportunities limited under Rafa Benitez, with the Magpies now back in the Premier League. Meaning a loan move back to the Sky Bet Championship is a real possibility for Armstrong this summer.

There should be a queue of Championship clubs looking to sign Armstrong over the summer, after two full seasons of first-team football within the Football League.

The 2015/16 campaign saw the striker score 20 goals in League One for Coventry City, before spending last season on-loan with Barnsley in the Championship, where he scored just six goals, but adapted well at a new level.

Armstrong didn’t hit the same heights as the likes of Tammy Abraham or Izzy Brown in the Championship last season, but the success of those loanees, shows taking Armstrong on-loan next season could be a shrewd piece of business from any club in the second-tier, should he rediscover the type of form he has shown before.

If a Championship team hands Armstrong an opportunity over the summer, and the striker can continue to develop at the rate he has over the last two-years, then they could find themselves benefitting from the talent of one of English football’s brightest stars, who will be full of confidence following his international success.
