Millwall and Wigan received a boost in their pursue of Portsmouth's Jamal Lowe as he has told his club that he wants to leave, according to Sky Sports Transfer Centre [24/06, 10:04 a.m.].

The winger has attracted the attention of multiple Championship clubs, but Millwall and Wigan are the only teams to have submitted a bid - with Pompey turning down offers believed to be worth £1.5m earlier this month.

Portsmouth have already sold a key player this year in Matt Clarke, so it is unsurprising that they are reportedly holding out for a fee of £3m, despite only having a year remaining on his contract.

Lowe was in fine form last season, and finished as the club's top scorer with 17 goals so there is no surprise that he is gaining Championship interest.

Portsmouth would have been hoping to hold onto the 24-year-old as they bid to get back into the second-tier, but after this development they may have to sell - or risk having an unhappy and possibly underperforming player at the club.

The Verdict

This is bad news for Portsmouth, as it means Lowe will probably not be at the club beyond the summer, and therefore the club faces a huge task in replacing their best two players ahead of the new season - with Clarke also departing.

Also, it means they may not be able to hold out for the £3m they initially wanted, which is probably a fair price for one of the most exciting talents outside the Championship.

Despite that, the money they receive for Lowe and Clarke should allow them to bring in very strong reinforcements, so while it may concern amongst the fan base, Kenny Jackett should have the team in a positive place on the first day of the season.
