The January transfer window is usually a busy time for Football League clubs, whether they are searching for a top class striker to fire them to promotion, or a solid centre back to help them avoid the perils of relegation.

However, especially in the Championship, clubs are starting to take more risks in the market and are signing lower league players with the potential to make it to the top of the English game.

Take Jamie Vardy for example, signed by Leicester from Fleetwood for £1m, or Andre Gray, signed by Brentford from Luton for an undisclosed fee.

The quality of players in League Two is arguably higher than ever before, with 4th and 12th place separated by just two points.

With that in mind, Football League World looks at THREE League Two stars who could make the step up to the second tier of English football in January....

Omar Bogle

Omar Boglefg

Birmingham-born Omar Bogle has lit up the League Two scoring charts this season, scoring 13 goals so far in this campaign.

The Grimsby striker spent three years at Solihull Moors prior to making the move to Blundell Park in 2015, scoring 62 goals in 111 appearances.

He has become a club hero at Grimsby after firing them to promotion last season and starting this season in a similar vein of form.

Standing at 6 foot 2 and known for his link up play, Bogle would certainly add an element of physicality to any Championship club and would cause problems for defences.

Whether Grimsby would be willing to sell the 25-year-old remains to be seen, but a big money offer from the likes of Wigan or Nottingham Forest could be too much to turn down.

Cameron McGeehan

Another player who sits near the top of the League Two goal scoring charts, McGeehan's feat have perhaps been the most impressive due to the fact that he has scored 6 goals from midfield for Luton this season.

A big money buy from Norwich in 2015, McGeehan has scored 18 goals in 54 games for the club and has also appeared for Northern Ireland at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels.

The 21-year-old failed to make the grade at youth level for Chelsea, and never made an appearance for the Canaries, but is highly rated by Luton manager Nathan Jones.

His performances this season will only help to improve his reputation, and with clubs such as Brentford having scouted the midfielder in the summer, they may be persuaded to re-ignite their interest come January.

Aaron Pierre

A strong centre back currently plying his trade at Wycombe, Pierre is another player to have left a Championship club for regular game time at lower levels.

No-one could argue that the move has not paid off for the Granada-born man, who has made over 80 appearances for Gareth Ainsworth's side since signing in the summer of 2014.

Pierre began his youth career at Fulham but was released in 2011, subsequently joining Brentford.

Despite impressing the Griffin Park hierarchy, he turned down the offer of a new contract in 2014 and swiftly joined Wycombe, where he has been earning rave reviews.

Pierre could be the perfect addition to add solidity to any backline and has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Preston and Wigan, with a potential move back to Brentford even being rumoured.
