Wes Hoolahan is planning to stay in English football when his contract with Norwich City expires in the summer.

It was announced yesterday that Hoolahan would be departing Carrow Road after 10 successful years with the Canaries.

The Irish playmaker has won multiple promotions during his time in green and yellow, also representing the club in the Premier League.

However, the 35-year-old’s final game will be Saturday’s clash with Leeds United.

According to the Irish Independent, Hoolahan isn’t planning on returning to the League of Ireland, but is eyeing a move elsewhere in English football, which could interest Norwich’s Sky Bet Championship rivals, who have previously shown an interest in the 35-year-old.

Hoolahan joined Norwich in 2008 and over the course of his Norwich career, he has made 351 appearances for the Canaries, scoring 53 goals and registering 76 assists in green and yellow.

This season, Hoolahan has made 28 appearances in the Championship, but only started on 13 occasions for Daniel Farke’s side, who are heading for a mid-table finish in the Championship.

The Verdict

Hoolahan has been an excellent player for Norwich over the last 10 years, but his lack of opportunities this season mean it is no surprise he is departing.

The 35-year-old’s plans to stay in English football will put Norwich’s Championship rivals on alert ahead of the summer.

Despite coming towards the end of his career, Hoolahan can still offer a lot in the Championship.
