A January scrap is set to take place for Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney, with Championship clubs passing admiring glances at the former Newcastle man

According to Alan Nixon, the striker has been impressing the onlooking scouts of Championship clubs, and a move in January could well be on the cards, with the Posh well known for being keen to sell their top prospects if the money is right.

Toney has found his feet at London Road after a few years of loan spells with varying degrees of success following his move to Newcastle United from Northampton, a move which failed to yield any sort of reward for the 22-year-old.

The goalscorer only signed for Peterborough in the summer, completing a permanent move to the Posh from the Magpies.

His form this season has been good in the main, with Toney notching six goals and putting in some impressive displays for Steve Evans' men as they look to make a push for promotion into the Championship.

Peterborough have previously sold the likes of Jack Marriott and Dwight Gayle to high bidders in recent years, and if the right bid comes in, then it's hard to see the League One club rejecting it.

The Verdict

It doesn't state who wants him, but i'd be surprised to see any of the top clubs interested in Toney.

The talent is there for the striker, and he might well blossom in an even better team, but strikers need to score goals, and Toney doesn't get enough for me.

It's certainly an interesting one, but I'd be more than shocked to see a Championship club chasing promotion make a move.
