Barnsley winger Ryan Hedges is a wanted man.

That is according to HITC, as they are reporting unnamed clubs in the Championship and Scottish Premiership are interested in the 23-year-old.

Hedges is out of contract in the summer and having failed to agree on a new deal could be on the move in the with a clutch of clubs all alerted to his potential availability.

With interest in him already, his full-debut for Wales would have garnered more likely suitors for his services after putting in an impressive display in the win over Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday evening.

HITC is also reporting that if he were to move to the SPFL, there would be no compensation needed to move north of the border, making him an attractive prospect for any would-be buyer.

Hedges has only been at Oakwell since 2017, moving from Swansea City in the January transfer window but has impressed during his time there.

The attacker has made 19 appearances in all competitions this term and has been one of the key figures in Barnsley’s promotion bid to return to the Championship.

The verdict

Barnsley would be reluctant to lose a player like Hedges but having impressed so much, it is inevitable there will be suitors for his signature.

Having not signed a new deal, there will be worry at Oakwell that the 23-year-old would leave on a free come the end of the season, regardless of the Tykes league situation.

It would be a huge blow, and the only potential way to get him to stay is to secure promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.
