Rotherham United will not be re-signing Cardiff City midfielder Will Vaulks this summer, a report from Wales Online has revealed.

Vaulks spent three years with Rotherham between 2016 and 2019, during which time he made 137 appearances and scored 17 goals in all competitions for the Millers.

The midfielder then left the club to join Cardiff, and has since scored 11 times in 117 games for the Bluebirds.

But with Vaulks' contract in the Welsh capital this summer, and Rotherham preparing for a return to the Championship after winning League One promotion, Millers boss Paul Warne has admitted that he would like to re-sign the 28-year-old.

However, it now seems that such a deal will not be happening during the current transfer window at least.

According to this latest update, it appears that this signing will not be completed due to the financial requirements of such a deal.

Instead, it is thought that a number of other Championship clubs have made their interest in signing Vaulks known to those involved.

The Verdict

You get the feeling that this will be a rather disappointing update from a Rotherham perspective.

Vaulks was a popular player during his time with the Millers, and his experience in the Championship could have been useful for Paul Warne's side on their return to the second-tier.

As a result, it could have been a rather piece of business for Rotherham to bring him back, although it now appears as though that will not be happening.

Despite that, it is no surprise that Vaulks is attracting interest from elsewhere given what he can do at this level, and there could be an intriguing battle for his signature in the next few months.
