Norwich City are hoping to keep James Maddison until the summer despite major interest from the Premier League big boys, according to the print edition of The Sun via the Sky Sports News paper talk page.

James Maddison has been the standout performer for Norwich City this season and he has been linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool for a price in the region of £20m.

But Norwich are desperate not to lose the 21-year-old this January as they are hoping he remains for the rest of the 2017/18 season at least.

Norwich snapped Maddison up from Coventry City in a cut price fee back in January 2016 and he was loaned back out to the Sky Blues, who were in League One at the time.

After a frustrating 2016/17 season - where he spent time on loan at Aberdeen - Maddison has been given a starring role this term and come to the fore, showing himself to be one of the best players in the Championship.

The attacking midfielder has notched eight goals and eight assists in the Championship this season and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

With the Premier League giants lurking, Norwich face a battle to keep the England under-21 star but they are planning to resist offers this January and keep him until the summer.

The Verdict

James Maddison is such a naturally gifted player that it is only a matter of time before he gets his Premier League move. His next career step will be big as he needs to be playing regular games somewhere. That is why staying at Norwich until the summer will be the best for his long term development.
