Hull City have offered Abel Hernandez a new contract at the KCOM Stadium, as speculation continues to grow surrounding the striker’s future.

Hernandez’s deal with Hull is up this summer, with the 27-year-old free to walk away as a free agent, should a deal not be agreed with the Sky Bet Championship outfit.

However, Hull have handed Hernandez an option to stay, with their retained list confirming that the striker has been offered fresh terms at the KCOM Stadium.

Reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post earlier in the week confirmed that Leeds United, amongst others, were looking to secure a deal with Hernandez, as the Whites looked to add the Uruguayan to their squad at Elland Road.

The 27-year-old has emerged as Leeds’ top striking target ahead of the summer, after an impressive four-year spell in East Yorkshire.

During his time with Hull, Hernandez has scored 39 goals across all competitions, including eight in just 10 appearances during an injury-hit 2017/18 campaign.

A number of Hernandez’s teammates at Hull are also out of contract this summer, with the Tigers offering new deals to Max Clark, Seb Larsson and Moses Odubajo, whilst discussions are ongoing with Michael Dawson over his future.

The Verdict

Hull are clearly desperate to keep Hernandez around next season, so their offer of a new contract is hardly a surprise.

However, Hernandez will get offers from elsewhere, with Leeds and a host of clubs keen to take him on board next season.

With no contract agreed, it seems like Hernandez will be heading for the exit door at the KCOM Stadium.

It would come as a surprise if Hull’s offer was taken up.
