Championship club makes enquires to sign Derby County player

Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has conceded that it will be hard to bring Derby County striker Darren Bent to the Pirelli Stadium but has admitted making an enquiry for the striker.

The former England international has found game time hard to come by at Pride Park this season with Gary Rowett having a range of other options in the final third.

That has meant that despite suffering an injury that meant he missed the opening months of the campaign, Bent has yet to make one Championship appearance this season and doesn’t even make the match day squad now.

Therefore, a move is inevitable but according to Joshua Murray from the Burton Mail, Clough isn’t confident of bringing Bent to the Brewers.

Murray revealed that the boss expects clubs ‘higher up the league’ to come in for the ex-Spurs forward.

The tweet also adds that Bent is one of about a dozen players that Clough has enquired about since the January window has opened.

Albion are currently occupying the final relegation position and face a massive home game against QPR this weekend.

The Verdict

Darren Bent would be a shrewd signing for Burton Albion as even though he hasn’t played this season he brings goals and experience.

However, as Clough acknowledges, because of that you can expect many more Championship sides to show an interest and Burton will struggle to bring him in if there’s serious competition.

Either way, fans will be delighted to see the club go after a player like Bent and will also be pleased that Clough seems hopeful of a busy window as reinforcements are desperately needed.
