Millwall are refusing to sell Glasgow Rangers target Jake Cooper, according to Sky Sports News.

Scottish Premiership side Rangers - now under the guidance of former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard - want Cooper to replace Portugal international Bruno Alves, who is Serie A bound.

But Millwall do not want to sell their prize asset and are insisting that he is not for sale.

The 23-year-old played a vital role in their promotion from League One via the play-offs in the 2016/17 season, convincing the Lions to sign him permanently from Reading last summer.

And Cooper went from strength to strength, forming a solid partnership with Shaun Hutchinson at the back as the South London side shocked most to launch a play-off push.

The towering centre-half played 42 games for Millwall last season, contributing to the third best defensive record in the division.

The former England youth international has two years left on his contract with Millwall but Neil Harris has no desire to sell him and will reject any bids from Rangers.

The Verdict

This is a good stance from Millwall.

After the success of last year, they simply cannot afford to lose their best players.

Keeping the solid partnership of Cooper and Hutchinson will once again form the bedrock for their success in the Championship.
