Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is a target for Rotherham United during this summer transfer window, according to a report by The Yorkshire Post.

Forest are willing to let Yates leave on loan at Rotherham are interested in signing him to bolster their chances of staying up next season.

Yates spent last season on loan in the Football League, thoroughly impressing in both League Two and League One.

The towering central midfielder started the season with Notts County, playing 29 games and scoring six times before moving to Scunthorpe United in League One.

He continued to impress in a higher division but could not quite guide his side to promotion via the play-offs.

Yates recently signed a new three-year deal at The City Ground but he is set to be loaned out again to gain more experience ahead of a potential first-team breakthrough.

The 20-year-old is now being lined up by Rotherham, who are scouring the market for cheap options this summer.

The Verdict

Yates is a tremendous talent and he could become a big player for Forest in the future.

A loan move to another Championship club is wise because they can run the rule over how he will fare in a higher league and a tougher standard.

Although some fans are calling for Yates to immediately be integrated into the first-team, a loan move is probably the best and most sensible decision for his career.
