Sky Bet Championship outfit Burnley have enquired about the possibility of signing Celtic forward Anthony Stokes, HITC understands.
The Championship club are reportedly keen to sign the Republic of Ireland international after being told by current boss Ronny Delia that he was not part of his plans at Celtic Park.
Stokes, 27, has been attracting interest from a host of other clubs such as Bolton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United and now the race to sign Stokes looks hotter than ever.
Notching 79 goals in 181 games for the Hoops, Stokes would certainly be a worthy addition to Sean Dyche’s squad.
After losing last year’s top goalscorer in Danny Ings, the Clarets will be keen to bolster their attacking options with a recognised goalscorer – and Burnley will be keen to utilise the funds made available from the departure of the striker.
With Burnley one of the more likely clubs to achieve promotion at the end of the season, this acquisition may assist this side in winning the race to sign him – however, the Clarets will face a fight to land the Celtic frontman this summer.
Burnley fans… Would you be happy if you signed Stokes? Can you win the race to sign the Republic of Ireland international? Can he help you achieve your goals this season? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
