Championship club in pole position over Aston Villa to sign winger

Brentford are said to be leading the chase for highly talented Irish winger Chiedozie Ogbene, who currently plays for Limerick and has attracted interest from Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The 20-year old recently enjoyed a trial spell with the reigning Premier League champions and they are said to be considering an offer for Ogbene.

As well as that, Championship rivals Aston Villa are also believed to be weighing up an offer for the winger but according to Get West London it is the Bees who have stolen a march on the duo.

Ogbene is known for his speed and dribbling ability and is perfectly capable of playing on either side which will appeal to managers out there.

He was heavily linked with a move to Villa at the start of last month although Limerick manager Neil McDonald refused to comment on the speculation.

However, given the resources available to the Irish League side they would find it impossible to resist any serious bids for the talented youngster who has a year left on his contract.

The Verdict

This is good news for Brentford fans and they will be delighted that they are apparently ahead of two clubs like Aston Villa and obviously Chelsea for a player.

You would imagine Ogbene will see Griffin Park as the ideal place to continue his development as he is more likely to get first-team football.

Clearly the youngster is talented and the Bees will be hopeful of concluding a deal soon.
