Rotherham United are hopeful that Nottingham Forest's capture of Jack Colback will result in them landing Ryan Yates on loan, The Yorkshire Post reports.

Nottingham Forest recently completed the signing of Colback on a season-long loan deal following his impressive stint on loan at the end of last season.

The Newcastle United man's arrival in central midfield could lead to a loan exit for Yates, who enjoyed a thoroughly impressive season out on loan last term.

The 21-year-old started the season with Notts County, scoring six times in 29 games, and then excelled with Scunthorpe United in the second half of the campaign.

The dominant 6ft 3in midfielder recently signed a new contract at The City Ground but Aitor Karanka could loan him out to aid his development.

Rotherham are hoping to win this race and sign him imminently after Colback's arrival at Forest.

The Verdict

Yates would be a superb signing for Rotherham and this move seems sensible for all parties.

Nottingham Forest would get to run the rule over their impressive young midfielder at Championship level and if he is good enough, he could slot into the first-team next season when Colback's loan expires.

If he can stand out for Rotherham in what is likely to be a relegation battle, then he will be well equipped to play a starring role for the Reds.
