Leeds United striker Billy Sharp is a target for promotion chasers Ipswich Town, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Sharp is set to have a medical at Sheffield United

Sharp joined Leeds from Southampton in the summer for a fee of around £600, 000, signing a two year contract at Elland Road.

Sharp has grown frustrated over his lack of starts this season, only being named in the first eleven eight times.

Ipswich are keen on expanding their goalscoring options. They currently have the Championship top goalscorer, Daryl Murphy, amongst their ranks and David McGoldrick, a man who can score goals.

They signed former Leeds and Reading man Noel Hunt after he was released from Leeds and the Tractorboys now want Sharp to be their latest addition.

After falling out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino's regime at Southampton, Sharp felt out of favour at the Premier League side.

He spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest in 2012/2013. He later signed for Reading in September 2013 and when that expired he signed for former club Doncaster Rovers on loan but couldn't fire them to Championship safety.

Sharp scored 17 goals in those three spells.

His most recent start for Leeds was on Boxing Day, where his side lost to Wigan. He was substituted with 19 minutes to go. Neil Redfearn told Yorkshire Evening Post after that game: “I’ve done that myself in the past. I was far worse than Billy when I was a player. I was a nightmare.

“He wants to play, he wants to start and I understand that. But looking at it from my side, it’s important that he understands it’s a team game.

“He’s part of a squad and sometimes you have to change things around to chase a game or do something different.

“I don’t have a problem with it. I’d be disappointed if he wasn’t disappointed about coming off. I don’t see it as a major issue.”
