Championship claim emerges as EFL pundit delivers Bradford City verdict

Bradford City have been tipped by Don Goodman to start rising through the League Two table after a slow start to life under Derek Adams.

Adams was a real impressive appointment at the Yorkshire club in the summer. He’d guided Morecambe to League One last year but opted to step back into the division he’d mastered by linking up with Bradford.

However, the Bantams sit 11th in the League Two table, having won five, drawn five and lost four in the opening 14 fixtures of the season.

Goodman has been speaking with FreeSuperTips and offered his thoughts on the Bantams under Adams, claiming they will have ambitions of reaching the Championship.

He said: “It’s a difficult one because they’re one of the big cheeses that have been in the Premier League along with Swindon and Oldham.

“Everyone expects them to be at the top of this league and the fact they persuaded Derek Adams to leave a League One project with Morecambe shows something.

“Derek has done that because he sees the project and that isn’t to get promoted to League One, it’s to go again and get into the Championship.

“They believe they are a Championship level sized club, but it needs to start happening on the pitch.

“They started the season really well and then went on a horrible run of form.

“They’ve got the top three in their next three games and some other teams doing well up and amongst it, so it’ll be a tough run of fixtures.

“I think we’ll have our answer whether they can be promoted in three games’ time, but the ambition is there from the club to get promoted.

“They’re not a million miles away and they haven’t hit the levels Derek Adams would have wanted yet, but I do think he’ll get it right and they’ll start moving up the table.”

Which club is Jon McLaughlin playing for now?

Adams’ side picked up an impressive 3-1 win over Swindon Town last time out and will be looking to build on that in the coming weekend when they take on Forest Green Rovers.

Port Vale and Northampton Town lay in waiting after that and a couple of cup fixtures, as Bradford take on League Two’s best current trio.

The Verdict

You don’t compete at League Two level on your name alone. You’ve got to mix that stature with performances on the pitch consistently, which right now Bradford have failed to do.

Adams is a good manager, though, and as he gets his feet under the table at Bradford, results will come.

This run now is a testing one against the top-three but, whilst daunting, it’s an opportunity for Bradford to build the belief that they are a top-three side themselves.
