Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough is targeting a shock win against Newcastle United, the Burton official website has revealed.

In tonight’s Sky Bet Championship clash, Newcastle United host Burton Albion at St James’ Park with both teams keen to pick up the points for their respective goals.

Newcastle know that three points would take them back to the top of the league and stretch their lead to at least ten points ahead of third place in the race for automatic promotion.

Burton Albion, however, have different aspirations.

The Brewers have defied the odds all season to resist dropping into the relegation zone and they currently sit 4 points above the bottom three.

A victory for them at St James’ Park would take them 7 points clear of the drop with six games to play.

Nigel Clough is aiming to upset Newcastle despite acknowledging that “nobody expects us to get anything”.

The Burton boss told the official website:

“As good as Huddersfield was it’s over now and we look forward to Newcastle.

“They are top of the league and nobody expects us to get anything but we will try and upset the form book.

“Newcastle pose different problems to Huddersfield.

“It’s daunting for Burton Albion to be going to St James’ Park and to play in front of 50,000.

“It’s remarkable and I hope the chairman and everyone else enjoys the experience and if we can get a result then brilliant.

“They are going to get promoted this season and we might never get the chance to go there again.

“It’s one we must take in and relish.”
