Millwall are looking to sign Derby County defender Alex Pearce on a permanent transfer in the summer, following his successful loan spell at The Den.

The 30-year-old joined Millwall in the January transfer window, signing a loan deal until the end of the season and has been an important player for the Lions.

The centre-back has made 14 appearances for Millwall this season, helping the team survive a relegation battle in the Championship and reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Millwall boss Neil Harris has been impressed with what he has seen from Pearce this season and has admitted that he would like to keep him at the club beyond this season.

"Pearcey has come in and his leadership qualities as a defender, his qualities as a man and professional have been outstanding. I’ve been so impressed with him," said Harris, as quoted by the Derby Telegraph.

"As a player and as a person, he is a player I’d definitely like to keep at the club and work with moving forward," added the Lions boss.

Pearce is out of contract at Derby in the summer and has made just one appearance for the Rams all season, coming off the bench for the final few minutes against Reading on the opening day of the campaign.

The Verdict

Pearce has been an important player Millwall since joining on loan in January and has played an integral role in the team's battle to avoid the drop.

He is out of contract at Derby in the summer and would be a good signing for Millwall, especially if they can get him on a free transfer.
