Nigel Clough believes Luke Murphy’s absence this weekend is a huge blow for Burton Albion, with promotion hopefuls Leeds United visiting the Perelli Stadium, reports the club’s official website.
Murphy joined Burton on-loan during the January transfer window from Leeds, having found opportunities limited at Elland Road during the first-half of the campaign.
However, Leeds did not grant Murphy permission to face them this weekend and Burton will be without one of their most influential players, as they look to maintain their Sky Bet Championship status.
Previewing Saturday’s clash, Clough gave his thoughts on Murphy’s ineligibility, he said: “It’s a big blow missing Luke against his parent club, he’s been one of our most consistent players. His fitness has improved but it’ll do him good to get a breather too.”
Since his arrival at Burton, Murphy has made 17 Championship appearances, scoring one goal.
The 27-year old’s performance in Monday’s victory over Birmingham City was particularly impressive, and his absence will make Saturday’s contest even tougher for Clough’s side.
Burton are currently 19th in the Championship table, four-points above the bottom-three, and with just three fixtures of the season remaining, Clough will be confident his side can defy the odds and survive.
