Championship boss delivers bullish message to Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Reading

Phil Parkinson has set his sights on pulling Nottingham Forest, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday into a relegation battle, as he looks to guide Bolton Wanderers to safety on their return to the Sky Bet Championship.

Speaking to the Bolton News, Parkinson has been discussing the relegation fight in the Championship, with his Bolton side currently sitting 19th and four points clear of the relegation zone heading into the final 12 fixtures of the season.

50 points is often seen as the aim for clubs fighting relegation, with Bolton currently 16 points adrift of that target.

A number of clubs remain below the Trotters in the table, but Parkinson has set his sights on pulling the teams directly above them into a relegation scrap, he said: “We have to start targeting the teams above us.

“That isn’t me being over-confident, of course you need to look at what is going on below you as well, but we have got to drag some of those clubs above us back into it.

“There are a couple I think are within reach if we can keep up our form, especially at home.

“The bigger we can make this league, the better it will be for us.”

Nottingham Forest currently sit in 15th, six points ahead of Parkinson’s side, with Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday and Reading all sandwiched between the two.

Parkinson’s side travel to Reading and Sheffield Wednesday on March 6th and 10th respectively, which will give Bolton the opportunity to pull those sides into the relegation battle.

Bolton also face Forest at the City Ground on the final day of the season.

The Verdict

Bolton are currently in a good position in the relegation fight, and Parkinson seems in a positive mood about his side’s chance of survival.

If Bolton are to be successful in pulling more sides into the relegation battle, they need six points when they face Reading and Sheffield Wednesday in the coming weeks.

Parkinson will know the importance of those fixtures and will have his side fired up.
