Oxford United are one of several clubs interested in young Reading forward Sam Smith, according to Reading Chronicle journalist Courtney Friday.

Oxford United owner, Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth, used to own a 25% stake in the Royals, so may be able to use his contacts to help get a deal over the line.

With Oxford United in desperate need of a striker, this may well be music to the ears of Oxford United fans.

The Manchester-born striker has two goals to his name for Reading in nine appearances, with one apiece in the League Cup and Championship.

He has also spent time on loan at Non-League Bishop's Stortford.

If Reading don't bring in a forward themselves, it is unlikely they will want the forward to leave the club.

Verdict:

Yet another loan move may leave Oxford fans wondering if their starting eleven will consist of more loan players than players contracted to the club.

However, this may be a shrewd piece of business from the Yellows.

Wes Thomas and Jon Obika both really struggled to lead the line for Oxford last season, with just thirteen goals between the pair.

If Sam Smith could come in and form a strike partnership with either of these two, it would be hugely beneficial for the Kassam Stadium outfit.
