Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe has told Jordan Storey that he wants to see him become one of the best defenders in League One after he completed a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
Storey has made 96 appearances for Preston since making the switch from Exeter City to Deepdale back in 2018, which includes 20 outings during the current campaign.
However, the 24-year-old’s exit has been given the green-light by Lowe this month, with Sheffield Wednesday the defender’s destination.
Wednesday confirmed Storey’s arrival yesterday morning, with Darren Moore bolstering options in a depleted defensive unit with the signing of the North End youngster.
And, the challenge that’s been laid out to Storey by Lowe has been made clear.
As quoted by Preston’s official media, Lowe said: “I see Jordan Storey as a Preston North End player for many more years, he has all the attributes. I gave him the choice of going out and getting games and we will be watching him and getting reports on him.
“He just need to go and play games. I want to see him go and be one of the best defenders in the division now in League One.”
Quiz: Have each of these 25 ex-Sheffield Wednesday players ever played in the Premier League?
At 24, it’s important that Storey is playing regular minutes and getting plenty of game time under his belt.
He’s been given the option to go out and he’s taken it, which underlines his drive and ambition to succeed even if he’s got to step down a level.
Wednesday have recruited a really solid defender and someone that’s got that motivation there to prove a point to his parent-club.
Storey will also be pleased with the club that’s picked him up.
Wednesday are ambitious and there’s real demand for them to be challenging League One better than they are doing at the moment.
That’s only going to bring the young defender on in the next six months.
